Summer, summer, summer. There are too many to count the ways I love thee. I would argue that in tandem with the rising temperatures, going to the beach is the most obvious sign of summer. As we approach the unofficial kick-off to summer, I couldn’t help but share a cute way to decorate cupcakes for your Memorial Day barbecue.
For this project, you can bake your favorite cupcakes. The fun comes in the decorating to show a typical day at the beach—complete with sun, sand, and water! Once the cupcakes are baked and cooled, you’ll need brown sugar, a can of blue food coloring (you can even find spray cans), and parasol umbrellas (like the ones you would use in drinks). I’ve invested in some cake decorating tips. The one I used here is an open star tip, which makes wave-like swirls. If you don’t have any, don’t worry, you can just frost the cupcakes as you normally do.
I love to leave some bits of white peeking through in the frosting, as it mimics sea foam of the waves as they go back and forth. After that, sprinkle a bit of light brown sugar around the cupcake. I would suggest adding a little at a time until you’re satisfied with how it looks. The piece de resistance is adding an umbrella to each cupcake. One time, I added Teddy Grahams as well. They just look so cute and are a fun and easy way to decorate your dessert table.
There you have it! Sit back, relax, and enjoy a day at the beach without the crowds and sweltering heat!
